How to Get the Perfect 'Navratri Look'

While you draw admiring glances with your dancing abilities this festive season, how do you ensure the 'wow' factor when it comes to looking your best as well? Ami Pandya finds out

It's Navratri, the festival popularly known for the nine nights of dancing it brings along. And while your dance moves might be 'fab', ensuring that your dressing sense is in sync with your dancing abilities is a must. The 'Dress Code', requirement, are outfits that spell 'Glam' while retaining the ethnic touch -- the 'magic mantra' this festive season.

Women and girls alike can go in for the traditional Chaniya Choli or Lehenga Choli. These Chaniya Cholis are available in different varieties and are decorated with beads, shells, mirrors, sitaras and embroidery work. "Ensuring that you have the perfect jewellery to match the look is a must," says Geeta Gandhi who designs her own jewellery for the festive season. "The jewellery preferred with this should be of oxidised metal or the jewellery made up of kodi (shells). Traditionally, women adorn themselves with jhumkas, necklaces, bindis, bajubandh, chudas and kangans, kamarbandh, payal, and mojiris," she adds.

For Men and Boys, wearing a Kedia and Dhoti in bright colours like red, green, white etc is a good option. "For accessories bali's and kadaa's are very important. On the leg you can try out a thick kadaa and for the neck anything that is chunky yet attractive," advises Bhayva Mehta, who enjoys getting into the perfect look for the festive season. "The most attractive part is the Pagdi (phaliyu) or the cap. Ensure that your cap is something different in its shape and design, etc. will make it the perfect package," he says.

For women who like the traditional look yet are not comfortable with chania choli, the elegant saree is the perfect option. Indian Silk Saris in warm and enriching shades make you look your traditional best. You can also try out something with bead work or thread work done on it.

Opting for a Bandhani saree will give the traditional Gujarati- Rajasthani look. For men, the Kurta-Pyjama is a comfortable choice. It gives you the ethnic look and can work as a good option in place of the Kedia dhoti. You can try out a bright red or a navy blue silk kurta for the elegant look. If you plan to opt for a cotton Kurta, the brighter the better!

For girls wanting to get into the indo-western fusion look, wearing Kurtis for Navratri also makes for the perfect ethnic look. When picking a Kurti for Navratri, it's best to choose one made of a rich and lustrous fabric such silk, rawsilk, silk cotton, shimmer georgette, crepe silk, etc.

Stylish Kurtis with dazzling embroidered neckline or hem are the best and safest picks to flaunt a high style quotient during Navratri. This festive season, get a Kurti and pair it with a pair of slim fit denims, skinny jeans, capris or a pair of leggings. For guys, a smart kurta with a pair ofdenims is the perfect indo-western outfit this Navratri.
